Annual Conference 2026
The 2026 Annual Conference will once again take place at the University of Vienna (Japanese Studies) from November 13–15, 2026. This year’s focus is on the section meetings, which are scheduled for November 14. The section meetings will be preceded by the annual gender workshop and the VSJF general meeting. Online participation is possible.

For the rest of the program, the VSJF is collaborating with the Student Council for Japanese Studies at the University of Vienna, which is organizing the “Student Conference of European Japanese Studies” at the same time and at the same place. Under the theme “Tides of Change,” the student conference offers advanced students from across Europe the opportunity to present their Japan-related theses or independent research projects in an academic setting. With the goal of promoting young academics with an interest in Japan, the VSJF supports the student conference organizationally and financially. The programs of the student conference and the VSJF section meetings do not overlap, and there are no conference fees. Participation in both events is therefore open for all attendants.
